Sunday Happy

January 6, 2019 Colleen Stem

What a world wind of the first week of the year. I feel like nothing has happened and everything is happening all at once. With all the holidays birthdays and family gatherings, happy and sad ones… it has been a lot to take in. I am in serious need of some time hiding away, not that I don’t love everyone and have had loved being around them, its just been a lot and I can only hold it down for so long. You feel me?

We started the week with Judah Birthday (Happy birthday Judah!!!). I made an ice cream cake and the mr slept on the couch for half the day until it was party time. Poor guy, he has got such a heavy sinus infection so he has been feeling like shit all week long. Some days worse then others, and he has been trying to push through but this infection had really taken hold. I have been pushing all my concoctions and tinctures and good stuff into him and I think we are started to see some of the better feeling mr.

New Years was low key as can be. We went for a little drive, a little hike, and that was it. I stayed awake until 9 then passed out which is exactly my kind of night. New Years day was much of the same, went for a long walk to the river, hung around the house trying to get the mr better. and was just so exciting because I got to start a whole new calendar and binder system. Fresh paper, a nice new pen, and not a cluster fuck of a bunch of bills and papers yet. It was like the excitement of shopping for new school supplies. It really made me happy.

After A calm New Years, it was back to the grind. Working and doing the life thing. The littles over a few times for games of Sorry, and trying to french braid Judah’s hair. Sophia came over for a day and helped me repot some plants, spun around in circles on the kitchen floor for like an hour, and hit Barb right in the face with a snow ball. I finally took the tree down and packed up most of the Christmas decorations, deep cleaned the pantry, and made the phone calls I have been dreading making for the past few weeks. Get it done, got it done.

Yesterday was another long ass day. We grabbed our nice shoes (are hiking boots nice shoes?) and climbed back into the car for the 4 hour drive to Rhode Island for Seths Memorial. 150 plus people packed inside his and Pamula’s loft to listen and honor this amazing person. And I must say, it was sad, but so good. So much love and sharing. Music and food and family. Hearing the stories and the way he impacted so many lives, it really was just such a lovely night and really gave me a bit of happiness from such a shitty situation. After hanging at the loft and spending as much time as I could around all the people, the mr and I jumped back into the car and drove on home. By the time we got home, we were pretty trashed. Walked in the door and crashed. That was only just a few hours ago.

And yet I am still awake. I don’t even know how Im still woke up at 4:30 this morning. My brain knows no other way I guess. For the rest of the day, after my 4-6 cups of coffee (I will drink all the coffee and then some today) I am heading to work at the studio for a while, going to do some gym, maybe hit the library, then I need to go grocery shopping because farm share was canceled this week and now I am running dangerously low on food. After that I will probably come home and crash. Yeah, and then off to a fresh week of more family and birthdays and work stuff, but hopefully this week the mr will not be sick, I will catch a little more sleep, and the snow storm that we are suppose to get will actually be and we get 2 feet of snow. That would be just so nice.

Sunday Happy

June 10, 2018 Colleen Stem

It always happens. One minute it is snowing and freezing, the next it is sunny and warming up, and then blink and everything is all lush and green and amazing. Summertime (basically) and the weather has been fine fine fine and all the green and colors are here and I am taking it all in. The world is a pretty amazing place.

A good, never a dull moment, packed to the brim, week. It's crazy how much stuff you can pack into a day, especially a, soon to be, long summer day. Fishing, bike rides, read a book, did all the bills, work, running around here, getting that there. We have been all over and all out. Started  the week with the first of the summers farm share.  I picked it up, I ate it all, and obviously I am hungry because all I can think about is food right now and what is coming in the share tomorrow. Ha. Besides farm food, I had Anthony came over for a afternoon of crafting that had something to do with homework. He made a felt rocket ship and I taught him how to use a sewing needle. It was a good use of glue and thread.  I also hung out with the Miley, Judah, and Coco and all the rubix cubes anyone could ever handle. Me and the two big ones tried to figure those out for a while and Coco just sat there eating chips like it was his job.  Good stuff. I have also been spending time at the ceramic studio for now I am a studio assistant and will be assisting the studio with all of it's needs. That has been exciting for me because I haven't worked in a studio for a good while and it's been great to get back into it. Let see, what else. The mr has been working like crazy nuts, 14 hour days, all week. One of the houses in town got a nice scrape and is primed and ready for me (and the mr) to start painting, which will happen if we ever pick a freaking paint color. The gardens going well ( beside the war I have started  on slugs and squirrels), I need to mow the lawn again, and I still haven't found the vacuum attachment but have come to terms with it, and with all that and more we ended up missing  little So's dance recital. I feel bad, but not so bad because she spends half of her time twirling around and dancing around anyway. If I want to see her dance, all I got to do is start dancing and he will bust a move.  No harm, no foul and I'll make her some cookies so she really won't care.

The big reason we busted ass so hard this week to get shit done was because we left for the weekend to Rhode Island for a quick visit with  the uncle and the cousins. We basically zoomed down there, ran around, checking out their amazing collection of houses and salvaged materials. (The mr and I are very very jealous) We hung out with my uncle Seth, took him  for a walk and got him in a few chuckles which made my heart swell. Then we spend an afternoon at the Providence Art and Music festival and watched David's band play a sweet little gig. Lots of sunshine, lots of cool art, lots of street performers and fun things. Then we jumped back into the car and zoomed home.  It was a short visit but a good one. But it is always good when I am with my family. They are my people, they get me.

Today is going TBD. I am very much tired and am feeling like I might be getting an ear infection so that is not good. Not exactly sure the plan for today, but there is a plan for a plan for some stuff and once I get a little, or a lot, more coffee in me  I am sure I will be able to figure it out. And maybe some mullein and garlic oil and a warm almond for the ear and maybe just a short, few minute nap to help clear the fog. First things first, coffee (then maybe I won't need the nap) oh and water the all the plants and the garden like right this minute.  I am going to go do that now.

Ok, so I am currently finishing up this post on Barbs computer because after last weeks Sunday happy my computer FUCKING CRASHED!!!! Yup, right after I joke about my computer dying, it did. Lesson learned, do not joke about the death of computer on computer. (to Barbs computer in which I am currently using...do not die!) I was able to get some of  my pictures off of the computer before the crash so that's a plus, but most of them are gone. At least I got some from my trip. Oh well, what you gonna do?

Anywho, Rhode Island, the tiny little state south of Vermont that I never really go to because the family that lives there alway come up here. But as we were driving home after our visit we realized that we live pretty close (4.5 hours) and need to visit more often. Rhode Island is petty cool.

Our trip was short but sweet. We stayed with David and Lori in there super cute and cozy beach cottage where were got to sleep on there porch and walk along the beach before the sun even came up. We filled our time having out with David and Lori doing the fun things you do. We went to the farmers market and got some apple and hung out with the alpacas. Spent some time at the ocean which was pretty great because we don't get much ocean around here. The sky was grey and clouded and perfect for for rock and shell hunting.. I honestly don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if it were sunny. I needed the grey.  We also made our way to an antique shop that was basically thousands of old wooded furniture pieces stacked in large, very scary looking piles, and took a  trip around the city to see some of their projects.

David and Lori do kind of the same thing that the mr and I do except in a big city with way way bigger buildings and have people that work for them to help do it. We got to go take a peek at a couple of their past project that they have completed. Big ass old brick mill buildings turned into lofts and a skinny brick building right in downtown providence with the pretty staircase and a view of some street art (I guess the huge mural was painted by one of the mr's favorite graffiti artists). My favorite place we went to was a place called the Steel Yard. It use to be an actual steel yard but when they tuned the building that it is attached to it into lofts, they tuned the yard into art space. It's like a huge building of steel workers, black smithing, ceramics, and now thanks to Seth who just donated all of his wood working tools and machine, a wood shop. We didn't get to stay for long because they were holing an event, but man was that the coolest space.

After our adventures we ended up at with Seth and Pam's for dinner.  Their loft is something out of a magazine. Everything from the floors to the high ceilings with all the light to the his and her toilets (that is just genius) and view of the river off of the balcony. The place was amazing and full of all of Seths furniture designs and art and amazing things that the he and Pam have collected from there travels around the world.  The mr ended up inheriting a shit load of Seth's fly fishing fly making stuff (did I say a shit load, cause I meant a fucking shit load) and a bunch of new fly rods . We seriously packed our car full of boxes and boxes of feathers and hooks. The mr is now the happiest fly fisher in the world and is never allowed to buy another fly again.

All in all, a grand little trip hanging out with some pretty amazing humans who happen to be my family. I have a pretty great family.
