Sunday Happy

November 13, 2022 Colleen Stem

First week into Daylight Savings and I got to tell you, I am so into it. I love when it gets dark out early. I love being able to see the sunrise when I got for runs in the morning. It works for me. What I do not love, better yet hate right now is how warm it has been. It is making me sad and cranky. Mind body and mind crave those crisp, cold, snow filled days where everything seems quiet and all the people are tucked away and the outside world seems to be all mine. I guess I am a true Ice Queen.

Besides shitty weather the past couple weeks things were good good. Lots of studio time. Lots. And a few nice hikes through the sticks. The mr, Judah, and I cleaned the yard and moved all the leaves to the garden beds. I made fire cider, the mr carved a many spoons. I picked up the first winter farm share, voted, watched the lunar eclipse and cleaned the car. Not like super exciting but exciting enough. That is my life. Ha!

Today the mr and I are going somewhere for a hike. Now that we aren’t camping every weekend we go for a good hike on Sundays instead. It is good to have something to look forward to. And if I have time I should probably go grocery shopping, I have a long list and a shit ton of bread I need to make…The family is descending on the house this weekend for our family Thanksgiving. 23-26 people. Yeah, I am in charge of all bread. We need lots of bread.

Oh and it’s Shannon’s birthday today so yeah, Happy Birthday!

Sunday Happy

June 12, 2022 Colleen Stem

I don’t know where you live but here in VT it looks like it is snowing out. The cotton wood fluff is heavy and is actually really lovely until you get a mouth full. But hey, what am I gonna do, keep my mouth shut? Yeah no, probably not.

The past week was not to shabby. I feel like I got a lot of stuff done even though I am still a hobbling around a bit cause my knee is still all sorts of fucked up. I am dealing with it enough and I figured if it is still screwy next week I might just call one of those doctors and go from there. Anyway…😬

Biggest highlight of the week was I picked up our first famr share of the summer! SOOOO many greens and I am soooo soooo happy about it. The weeks between the winter and summer shares are always the worst. I pretty much end up eating whatever veggies I can scrounge up in the freezer and supplementing with the most expensive, sub par produce from the grocery store. It’s not a good month food wise but the stuggle is over. Yay! And as for my garden at home, it is looking pretty stinking good if I do sat so myself. So far the new neighborhood woodchuck has not managed to sneak his fat ass though the fence so yeah, I am feeling hopeful.

And it was the last week of school for the littles! I had everyone come over for a pizza and ice cream sundae party to celebrate. Almost the whole fam came and did the usual running through my house (with shoes on like beasts), eating as much pizza as possible, rolling down hills at the park, and harassing the mr. about gerbil cages. The sundaes were made without incident and the adult people bitched and moaned about all of our aches and pains. Good stuff. Ha!

Sunday here and I am ready to go. The mr and I are busting out the kayaks for the first time this year! I am exited to get out on the quiet waters for a bit. And that is the plan for the day, well that and I am going to spend the rest of the day with an ice pack on my knee, a cup of hot coffee (then tea, then more coffee) and a book in my face. Kayaking and reading… should be good.

It’s like basically officially summer which means I am basically officially a crank ass. There has already been a few to many too hot days but I am trying to stay positive and think of all the good stuff that Sumer brings. But also I am preparing for the worst. I really should just take to the woods from the month hs of June-September. I would be best for us all. Ha!

The week has been decent In terms of my little life, but basically just shit once again in terms of the world. I can’t even with it all and I am just sad about it. I don’t know, you know. It just sucks and I’ll leave it at that for now.

Again our week was nothing out of the normal, pretty much the same old shenanigans. The mr and I went to a river, he fished, I read. I spent a lot of time doing clay stuff (getting ready for another market) and disovered a few fucked up pieces of mine that someone loaded into the kiln wrong. That was some shit. I spent a good amount of time in the garden, went to the grocery store and bought all of the vegetables (farm share starts in 2 weeks. I am staving), and went for a bike ride in which I got caught in a rain storm. I actually quiet enjoyed that.

We also had the littles over. I made them food, we played, we made summer plans. (They just want to spend the summer at the pool…blah.) And that is about it. Oh I fucked my knee up. How I am unsure but I think it might have to do with all the hard running I have been doing lately. I probably need new sneakers again. No, I DO need new sneakers….😬

Sunday. This morning I am going to hang with an old friend for a bit then tje mr and I have some apartment doings this that need attending to. After that, not sure. I am itching to get out of town but I don’t want to drive anywhere just for a little while cause gas and all. Plus it is basically June which means camping soon so I can wait but I can’t freaking wait!!

May 15, 2022 Colleen Stem

I am hot and it is only the middle of May. I shouldn’t be this freakin hot. I hope this weather is not a preview of things to come this summer cause if it is then I am in trouble. And probably anyone that comes near me.

The week. It was meh, whatever. I feel like I am falling behind on everything in life so I have been little cranky and annoyed. I can blame some of it on the sudden summer weather but also I think I always feel this way around this time of year. June is a super busy month for us (apartment turn overs and the such) so getting as much shit done now helps the transitions go smoothly and we can never get enough done fast enough. This year nit exception, more so it has been kind of rough start already. The mr smashed out the back windshield of his truck with a 2x4 basically right after he blew out one of his tires. He also had stupid work stuff happen and so he has been stressed and a crank ass all week too. Oh and I got stung on my ass by a yellow jacket because why not?

It wasn't all a wash though. The littles and Barb came over for food and park play. I worked on pots (in my cool basement) and picked up my last winter farm share of the year. (3-4 weeks until summer share starts and I am already rationing out what I have left which is basically beets and onions.) And I went for a small bike ride, worked in the garden some, picked some lilacs. Little good things you know.

It’s Sunday and today the mr and I have plans for a good hike. The temperature should not be stupid and it might even rain so it will be great. And I need it. I need to get out of town (although not to far… gas is DUMB expensive) and hide away in the newly greened up trees. I might hate the heat but I am loving the colors and smell of fresh life. And with what ever time I have left this afternoon I am going to spend it in the garden. I already have a few of the beds planted and am ready to just stick everything in the ground. My tomato plants have been living outside for the past week and are thriving so if they are good, well it is time.

You knw that feeling you get when someone steels your car? Oh don’t worry, my car wasn’t stolen, but the mr’s truck, yeah, that was stolen. While he was working. With a bunch or his really expensive tools in it on top of like a million other things that suck ass to get stolen.

And basically that sums up the week. 😬

Actually the week started off just fine, well maybe kind of blah. We both have been feeling a bit shitty (many tests confirm not covid) but spring allergies are kicking and I always get the foggy brain feels this time of year so whatever. I took feeling like crap in stride and decided that I was going to spend the week spring cleaning (or spring mess making) and throwing a daily 10+pound pot. And for the most part I did (well I made some messes and I missed few days of throwing) which was super duper satisfying. If you throw on a wheel you know that centering a hunk of clay that big is really a full body experience. My core is sore as heck and all my studio clothes are covered in clay. As for the cleaning, well it always starts off messy and I am still in that messy state so now I need to rectify all that which basically means I just need to fill up the recycling, donation box, and trash with everything. I want to get rid of it all.

So back to the truck. Mid day Wednesday I get a prank call form the mr telling me his truck was stolen. I say prank because who the hell gets their car stolen. And if you someone where to steal a car, olden;t it be a nicer one then the mr’s? Turns out someone wanted it. And so it became the thing that pretty much made the rest of the week a shit show. But not all bad. We did have Barb and the littles also came over for puzzles, food, and bear tossing. And of course ragging on the mr about his stolen truck because duh. I also convinced them to come over this coming up week during school break for a day or two of manual labor, paid of course, so I am counting in little hands to help me get my outside looking pristine!

But yah, the truck thing kind of overtook the days. The police said the longer it was gone the less likely we were to get it back and if we did it would probably be in not so great condition. That reality sucked. I spent more time then I ever wanted combing through craigslist and online market places for someone selling a truck like ours and tools. Even time I left the house I was distracted by looking at cars, parked and driving. We had our friends and friend of friends on the lookout. And you know what? A few days after the incident (we call it that now) one of those friends of a friend of a friend, well they spotted it. She texted the mr, called the police and after the mr chased the guy down on his scooter(HAHA no joke) the guy ditched it and now the truck is happily waiting at the police staton until they can process it.

PHEW!!! I was starting to get really mad!

And now it is Sunday, and Easter Sunday to boot. Also it would be Seans 33rd birthday today (fucker). A day to celebrate with the fam so we are going over to the moms house and having a thing with food snd easter egg hunt and all the jazz. And then if I have any time the afternoon, back to that cleaning. Want to get that shit done before it gets really nice out and I never want to come inside again.
